Measuring step drop-off: How to improve upon an existing path

You make improvements to an existing path by measuring the drop-off from one step to the next between the starting and resulting point.

If you can identify which step is bringing the most attrition to the overall flow, you can test out providing better support structures for it. And be able to design in a way that would have a much more sophisticated hypothesis behind it than "Can we improve day 20 retention?" or "Can we get users to come back again?" or something along those lines. From: VPP Episode 2 (32.53)
